Solar Solarmax Modified Sine Wave Inverter 12V

Price range: KSh1,900.00 through KSh10,500.00

The Solar Solarmax Modified Sine Wave Inverter 12V is a widely available DC-to-AC power inverter in Kenya designed to convert 12V battery power into standard AC electricity . It is built for small-scale backup power, mobile setups, and road trips to run non-sensitive electrical appliances.

Key Specifications & Variations

The line ranges from small portable units up to larger capacities. Depending on the model variant you choose, the technical layout generally follows these baselines:

Capacity Options: Available in variants such as 150W (150VA) , 300W , 600W , 1000W , and 1500W .
Surge Capability: Features a peak surge capacity of roughly double the continuous rating (e.g., 2000W peak for the 1000W model, 3000W peak for the 1500W model) to handle higher startup loads.
Voltage System: Operates on a 12V DC input range (typically 9.5V to 14V DC). It outputs standard 220V–230V AC at 50Hz/60Hz.
Efficiency: Rated up to 93% efficiency for optimized conversion and minimal energy loss.
Physical Build: Engineered with a rigid, heat-dissipating metallic alloy shell paired with built-in cooling fans.

Hardware Features & Outlets

Dual USB Ports: Built-in slots for charging phones, tablets, and small accessories directly without an AC adapter.
Universal AC Sockets: Equipped with 1 or 2 universal AC outlets to power standard wall-plug items.
Status Monitors: Higher-end variants include basic LED indicators or an analog voltmeter to track power load and battery status.
Cigarette Lighter Adaptor: Smaller models (like 300W) frequently ship with a standard universal car lighter plug alongside alligator battery clips.

Built-in Safety Protections

To keep both the inverter and your battery safe, Solarmax integrates several automatic safeguards:

Low-Voltage Shutdown: Automatically cuts off power around 9.5V (±0.5V) to prevent flattening or damaging your 12V battery.
Over-Voltage Protection: Activates a shutdown if the input spike exceeds 15V (±0.5V).
Thermal Regulation: Safety shutdown triggers if internal operating temperatures rise past 149°F (65°C).
Short-Circuit & Overload Protection: Internal fuses (typically 40A) protect against sudden appliance short-circuits or drawing too much power.

What Appliances Can (and Cannot) Run?

Because this unit outputs a modified sine wave (a stepped approximation of grid power), it interacts differently depending on the type of appliance:

Compatible (Resistive & Simple Electronics)	Incompatible or Sub-optimal (Inductive & Sensitive Loads)
LED Lights & Bulbs	Refrigerators & AC Units (Comprosmised lifespan / overheating motors)
Smartphones & Tablets	Microwaves & Laser Printers (Require precise timing circuits)
Laptops & Wi-Fi Routers	Medical Equipment (CPAP machines, etc.)
Televisions (LED/LCD)	High-End Audio Gear (May produce a noticeable buzz or hum)
Small Fans & Phone Chargers	Heavy Power Tools with Induction Motors
